Harghita Values Collection

Everybody thinks of Harghita County, when it comes about the pilgrimage at Șumuleu-Ciuc, the Bicaz Gorge, the Saint Anna Lake, Lazar Castle from Lăzarea, the Siculicidium monument from Siculeni, the straw hats from Crișeni, the Sekler gates from Băile Szejke, the fortified church from Dârjiu, the folk music and dance from Ghimeș. All of these are values the population is proud of, since these value have already been integrated into their cultural identity.

In Harghita County, public, cultural and civil society actors have recognized the importance of these values, trying to discover and to make an inventory of them, then to promote them on large scale.

The Commission of Harghita County’s Values, which was set up in 2013, intends to support this work in an organized and professional manner. As a result of the Committee’s activity, 136 articles have recently appeared in the county’s collection of values, covering many aspects of agricultural and food management, gastronomy, health and lifestyle, technical and industrial solutions, cultural heritage, built and natural environment, sports, tourism and hospitality, as well as famous personalities of Harghita County.

The activity of the evaluation committee is an integral part of the objectives of the Hungarikum Law no. XXX. of 2012, approved by the Hungarian Parliament. Thus, the compiled collection of values is compatible with the system of value collection and the pyramid of values from Hungary as well, classifying our values according to a uniform aspect, that – according to the relevant legislation – present the “typical Hungarian characteristics, their uniqueness, specialty and quality, representing the highest performance of Hungarian communities.”

This is why we always think of Harghita County, when we talk about the pilgrimage from Şumuleu-Ciuc, the Bicaz Gorge, the Saint Anna Lake, Lazar Castle from Lăzarea, the Siculicidium monument from Siculeni, the straw hats from Crișeni, the Sekler gates from Băile Szejke, the fortified church from Dârjiu, and the popular music and dance from Ghimeș.
